Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival to Lima
Arrive to Lima this evening and transfer to your hotel.
Day 2: Lima
Explore Peru’s capital, beginning at the Plaza Mayor. Walk around the Cathedral, the Presidential Palace and the Monastery of San Francisco. We will allow some time for a light lunch (on your own). Then we will take a look at the Larco Herrera Museum, one of the city’s best museums for pre- Columbian artifacts. This evening, attend a welcome dinner at Astrid & Gaston Restaurant, located in an old Farm house just restored and decorated it.
Day 3: Lima/Cusco/Sacred Valley
After breakfast, fly to Cusco, arrival and transfer to the Sacred Valley of the Incas (9,000 feet high) and spend the morning acclimatizing to the altitude. Following lunch, visit the massive fortress of Ollantaytambo, a formidable stone structure of massive terraces that ascend the mountain slopes.
Day 4: Sacred Valley
Start your exploration of the Sacred Valley of the Incas — the vast valley below Machu Picchu and an area where a traditional lifestyle continues to this day. Our first stop will be Pisac market, where locals get together in a fair to sell their handycraft products, then a visit to the work shop and show room of Pablo Seminario, he is one of the best artist in clay molding, beautiful ornaments, jars dishes made out of clay. Then we will continue our ride visiting the charming town of Chinchero. Delve deeper into local culture when you visit Andean weavers where you learn firsthand about ancient techniques and about their role in contemporary Andean culture. Lunch at Tunupa Restaurant (buffet).
Day 5: Urubamba/Machu Picchu
AM Vistadome coach to go to Machu Picchu, passing through stunning Peruvian countryside along the way. Arrive with plenty of time to begin exploring the breathtaking Inca city (guided tour). Overlooking the raging Urubamba River and discovered in a hidden tangle of trees atop the mountain, Machu Picchu forever holds the secret of its passing — its Incan inhabitants left no written records of its purpose or its flawless construction. Dinner.
Day 6: Machu Picchu/Cusco
Rise with the sun to walk through Machu Picchu in the early morning mist. Alternatively, you may opt for a hike to Inti Punku (Sun Gate), the entry point to the ruins from the Inca Trail. Lunch. Journey back to Cusco Travel in luxury and style on the Hiram Bingham train, enjoying a later departure — meaning more time to explore the famous ruins — and a special gourmet dinner on board. Arrival and transfer to the hotel.
Day 7: Cusco
Discover Cusco on a city tour that includes the Cathedral on the Plaza de Armas and the Santo Domingo Temple, a Dominican church built on the foundations of the Koricancha (Place of Gold), the Incas’ principal religious building. Later, explore the ruins of Sacsayhuaman, a testimony to Incan architectural skill. Compiled of massive stones, the walls were cut and placed together with incredible precision and without a single drop of mortar to hold them in place. This evening enjoy a nice dinner show (Andean music and dances).
Day 8: Cusco/Lima
Return to Lima, and transfer to the Inca Market for the last shopping. Farewell dinner at Rosa Nautica Restaurant (on your own). Transfer to the airport, to board your homebound flight.
